Lunchboxes – Think Inside the Box

This site is dedicated to the lunchbox and everything we put in them. As a Mom of 3 (ages 8, 6, and <1), I aim to explore the topic in full because I would 1) like to reduce lunchroom waste, 2) promote healthy eating and, 3) one day like to create a company with new and better lunchbox products.
If you work for a company with a product you would like for me to test out and review, please contact me! If you currently use a lunchbox product you find on my site, please post a comment so that other readers can learn what you like and don’t like about a particular lunchbox product.
Thanks for visiting xobobox and have a wonderful day!!

Thanks to Gudrun of Kitchen Gadget Girl I realized that xobobox is mentioned in the September issue of Martha Stewart’s Everyday Food magazine! I feel honored to have the recognition on page 28 of their magazine where it reads:
“Looking for new ways to pack lunch for school (or the office?) We’re inspired by the fresh, affordable recipes at chefann.com and the savvy tips and cool lunchboxes at xobobox.com.”

Kids Konserve has an impressive array of lunchbox products that you can save 15% on now through September 30, 2009 using coupon code “xobo”. They have recently come out with insulated lunch bags that are made from 100% recycled water bottles. The new lunch bags come in two color styles: Moss (pictured at left) and Beach (patterned with orange and white). They also offer standard cotton bags in various patterns included with some of their other lunch kits.

Searching for a great school fundraiser to start the school year off right? Check out Back2Tap. They offer customized stainless steel bottles in various sizes that can show off your school logo while you promote environmental awareness. I think these bottles would be a great hit for kids of all ages. I love them because they are eco-friendly and personalized to your school, sports team or company. The quality is great, too, and would be sure to last years and save hundreds of plastic bottles from going in the landfill or recycle bin.

I love easy kids snacks you can feel good about in terms of health. I found this recipe in an old issue of the magazine Wonder time, one of dozens of magazines brought by various family members to enjoy during our weeklong vacation at the lake. These snacks are healthy but include treats mixed in, so are likely to keep both you and your child happy. Whether you keep them for snacks at home, trips about town, or to throw into a waste-free lunchbox as a healthy lunch box dessert, I think they will be a hit in your family.

Unfortunately, summer is more than half way over for our kids. I am already dreading the early morning routine of the upcoming school year. The stores are becoming stocked with back-to-school gear, which becomes a constant reminder of the upcoming end to summer. Are you a summer-lover too or ready for the school year to give you a break?
Solstice is my favorite day of the year… at least the days are still nice and long I just want time to slow down a bit during these last weeks of summer! I hope that you are also savoring your summer.

If you are in search of a reliable, waste-free lunchbox that will live months (years??) beyond an ordinary lunch box, consider Lunchsense. My kids and I finished off our school year testing out their medium sized lunchbox… I liked it well enough that it will be joining us for zoo and pool trips during the summer months, too! Lunchsense is one of my favorite lunch box discoveries since I began my lunchbox obsession a few years ago, and I anticipate it will be used as one of our primary lunch boxes during the coming school year.

I recently read about a movement for creating green schools from the ground up or retrofiting older schools to be more Green. Since my daughter’s elementary school was built in 1929 (and seems to need a retrofit anyways!), I find the movement interesting, particularly since the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will give school districts access to federal funding to modernize and green their schools. The program, A Green Classroom Toolbox, is lead by Ihab M.K. Elzeyadi, a professor of architecture at the University of Oregon.
