Now that a generation of people is a bit on the hefty side, schools have started to change their menus towards more healthy options. I’m sure some school zones are more on the way towards healthy school lunches than others, but at least as a nation we seem to be headed in the right direction. To promote the move towards healthier lunches at school, the USDA created an ad emphasizing the changes they are making in the public school lunch program.
As part of the ad campaign, the USDA interviewed grownups about what they recall about eating school lunches as kids, as well as expections they might have regarding food choices now served in our public schools. In the video you get a inside peek at healthy school lunches available in some schools today … much of this footage is shot at my nephew Sanders elementary school in Alexandria, Virginia. He pops up 3 times during the 5 minute ad, and is the one who says his favorite school lunch is “tacos!”. Check out the video below!
I was surprised to see such healthy options available … my kids school seems to be a bit behind in having the more appetizing and healthy menus. What is going on in your kids schools?? Are you seeing this trend towards a healthy lunch menu come through in your school cafeteria?
