Green Your Halloween

Posted by: Meg In: News

green-halloween Halloween is quickly approaching! Now is the time to take the initiative and think Green with Halloween, along with the other big holidays approaching over the next couple of months. There are great tips for greening your holidays all over the web, one great list can be found at Kids Konserve. Many of you may be familiar with some of their cool reusable lunchboxes and other eco food gear, if not check out my Kids Konserve stainless steel lunchbox article. An added bonus for making your October (or November) more Green: KidsKonserve has extended their discount coupon code through November 30th. Use Kids Konserve Coupon Code “xobo” to get 15% off your next purchase!

The folks at Kids Konserve pointed me to another great resource on greening Halloween and other holidays: GreenHalloween.orgrecycled-glass-pumpkin. Here, you can find a spooky Halloween online game for kids and dozens of tips and ideas for making Halloween a Green holiday.  What do they mean by Green? They define it by the 3 G’s: Good for People, Good for Planet, and Good for the community. They provide many great ideas and their site gives me a good reminder that it is much better to spend a little extra money on decorations you can use year after year rather than succumb to buying masses of cheap throwaways.

I find that people are great about reusing decorations for certain holidays such as Christmas. However, other holidays like Halloween & Valentine’s Day decorations tend to rely on throwaways. Last year, we started a “Halloween Box” with Halloween decorations we can pull out year after year. We’ll add a new decoration or two each year until we are fully decorated–and green–for the holiday each year. Hopefully we can all become more Green each year with our holidays… Any more great tips you can share?
