If you have any interest in the retro metal lunchboxes of yesteryear, you should check out Lunch Box Pad. Created by Bryan Los, Lunch Box Pad provides excellent tips on how to buy and preserve vintage lunchboxes and where to get them online. If you have one around in your attic, you might want to check out his extensive price guide. This inventory of hundreds of lunchboxes lists typical price ranges for vintage lunch boxes in the hundreds up into the thousands. You may just have one of those rare and hard to find lunch boxes going unnoticed!
Los’ obsession with lunchbox collecting didn’t start until the late 1990’s, and began after a random purchase of a 1980 Pac-Man kit. He writes that after his first retro lunchbox purchase he was hooked: “The lunch box took on a completely new form. This metal box was no longer just a taxi for food, but a piece of fine art.” He fully appreciates the artist behind the lunchbox, and provides a listing of notable lunchbox artists here.
Other interesting segments of the site include a Lunchbox History Time Line and a great guide with Tips on Buying Lunch Boxes On-Line. Do you have a favorite retro lunchbox in your collection?
