Laptop Lunches – A brief review

Posted by: Meg In: Lunchbox Products

Bento Box Lunchbox

Laptop Lunch Bento Box Set

The Laptop Lunches lunchbox is one of the best lunchbox products I have found.  I would recommend the Laptop Lunch Bento Box Set, but not necessarily the insulated carrying case (see below). I also am not very fond of the plastic bottle that comes with the full Laptop Lunch System because I feel that it is a bit flimsy.  I use a Sigg bottle instead, which I love.

I have not ordered any of the Laptop Lunches lunch jars or bottles, so I will not comment on them.

Pros: Bento Box Set is dishwasher safe, well-sized compartments to put in a variety of foods, nice variety of colors, box is easy for a child to open. The bento lunch box is designed to minimize waste, which is a great feature for any lunch box.

Cons: Lots of pieces to keep track of, and the little containers can get lost at school (Then again, having several compartments is a plus when packing a variety of foods!). Also, the 2 containers that come with lids I found to be a bit hard for a child to open. For kids, I would not recommend the optional Laptop Lunches insulated carrying case. Although the insulated carrying case is well made and has a long carrying strap that comes in handy, I found the design to be a bit boring for kid use and after a couple of food leaks from the bento box system, the case gets pretty nasty and is hard to clean (just like most insulated lunchboxes!).

Overall: I recommend buying a Laptop Lunches Bento Box Set (or, better yet, ordering 2 sets per kid if you pack their lunch every day and don’t want to have to run the dishwasher every night).  I would use a different lunchbox as the carrying case and use a Sigg (or similar) bottle for the drink, or let them buy milk at school if the school recycles the milk cartons.

[...] The Laptop Lunches Dimensions are: outer container is approximately 9 x 7 x 2 inches with 4 inner containers, 2 large and 2 small removable containers.  The two larger containers hold 1 cup each while the two smaller containers hold 1/2 cup each.  Their bento box is fully dishwasher safe, and ours are over 2 years old and going strong.  I like many aspects of this system, and if you are interested I did a more thorough review of this system here. Nice review of laptop lunches. I do agree that the containers and their lids can be a bit difficult to keep track of. It’s basically essential to have a few sets of the inside containers so you can have some extra while your waiting for the others to be cleaned.

Overall, Laptop Lunches are simply the best bento box systems around.

I'm Meg, a stay home Mom of 2 interested in promoting healthy, low waste lunches for kids and grownups. I aim to present good recipe ideas for packed lunches and to analyze lunchbox products currently available. I encourage involving your kids in all aspects of food. From gardening, to nutrition, to enjoying recipes and making some up... there is a lot to learn and enjoy. Cooking with kids in the kitchen is both spectacularly messy and fun, and generally well worth the extra cleanup time...
